WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs announced today $16 million in new grants to 91 community-based organizations across the country that provide adaptive sports programs for Veterans and service members with disabilities.

Adaptive sports programs give Veterans opportunities to build independence, well-being, and quality of life through a variety of competitive and recreational activities. These activities, such as archery, hunting, fishing, skiing, cycling, various wheelchair sports, and many others, enable Veterans to rehabilitate through recreation and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.

“Adaptive sports provide Veterans important opportunities to showcase their incredible resilience while improving their physical health and mobility,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “These grants will help thousands of Veterans across the country create meaningful connections through recreation and competition.”

VA has awarded more than $150 million to expand access to adaptive sports nationwide since the establishment of the Adaptive Sports Grant Program.

The grants announced today are the latest in a long line of VA accomplishments during the second Trump Administration. Since Jan. 20, 2025, VA has:

  • Enrolled more than 290,000 new Veterans in VA healthcare in 2026
  • Opened 43 new VA healthcare facilities since Jan. 20, 2025, expanding healthcare access for Veterans around the country
  • Completed a record high 82,083,918 direct care appointments in fiscal year 2025, up 4.1% from FY 2024
  • Completed a record high 59,989,662 community care appointments in FY 2025, up 12% from FY 2024
  • Offered Veterans more than 3.2 million appointments outside of normal operating hours since Jan. 20, 2025, giving Veterans more timely and convenient options for care
  • Committed nearly $5 billion in FY26 to modernize, repair and improve healthcare facilities, the largest non-recurring maintenance investment in VA’s history
