Check the official source for current information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON <\/strong>\u2014 Today, on Women Veterans Recognition Day, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that more than 53,000 women Veterans enrolled in VA health care between May 2023 and May 2024, marking a 20% increase over the previous year and the largest enrollment year for women Veterans on record. <\/p>\n<p>Health care enrollment of women Veterans increased across all 50 states, with the greatest number of enrollments in: Texas (6,507), Florida (4,666), California (4,318), Virginia (3,806), Georgia (2,937) and North Carolina (2,776). Women Veterans are currently VA\u2019s fastest growing patient population. This historic enrollment of women Veterans into VA <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-enrolled-401006-veterans-healthcare-365\/\">health care<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-record-benefits-delivered-women-veterans\/\">benefits<\/a> is driven in large part by the PACT Act, which President Biden signed into law in August 2022, empowering VA to deliver record <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/veteran-toxins-hazards-serving-eligible-va\/https:\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/veteran-toxins-hazards-serving-eligible-va\/\">health care<\/a> and benefits to millions of Veterans exposed to toxins while serving in the military.<\/p>\n<p>Expanding access to benefits and services for women Veterans is a key priority for VA and the entire Biden-Harris administration. This is critical because Veterans who come to VA are <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/studies-va-health-care-better-equal-non-va\/\">proven to do better<\/a>. VA health care has consistently outperformed non-VA care in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/trust-in-va-among-veteran-patients-rises-to-91-8\/\">Veteran trust<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/nationwide-patient-survey-shows-va-hospitals-outperform-non-va-hospitals\/\">patient satisfaction scores<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-outperform-non-va-facilities-cms-ratings\/\">overall quality ratings<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/health-care\/copay-rates\/\" rel=\"noopener\">affordability<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn this day in 1948, women were granted a formal place in our country\u2019s military. Today, the more than 2 million women Veterans living in the U.S. make up our fastest growing Veteran population,\u201d said <strong>VA Deputy Secretary Tanya Bradsher<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s important to all of us here at VA that every woman Veteran knows she belongs at VA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s our goal for every woman Veteran to receive all the benefits she has earned, and that includes world-class health care,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>VA Under Secretary for Health Shereef Elnahal, M.D.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe want women Veterans to know that VA has invested in more services for women Veterans than ever before. VA can now offer women the best and most accessible options for all their care needs, and we want them to apply for the health care they deserve today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>VA is leading the way in specialized health care for women Veterans. VHA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.va.gov\/WOMENSHEALTH\/index.asp\" rel=\"noopener\">Office of Women\u2019s Health<\/a> oversees these dedicated health care services. Today, there is a women\u2019s health program led by a Women Veterans Program Manager at every VA health care system across the nation. Additional specialized women\u2019s health staff include: Women\u2019s Health Medical Directors, Women\u2019s Health Primary Care Providers, Women\u2019s Health Patient Aligned Care Teams, Maternity Care Coordinators, Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Coordinators, and Women\u2019s Mental Health Champions. Women\u2019s health teams are also supported by LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinators, Intimate Partner Violence Coordinators, and Military Sexual Trauma Coordinators.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years, VA has dramatically expanded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.va.gov\/WOMENSHEALTH\/overview.asp\" rel=\"noopener\">health care services dedicated to women Veterans<\/a>. This includes expanded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/breast-cancer-veterans-toxic-exposures\/\">breast cancer screenings and mammograms\u00a0<\/a>for Veterans with potential toxic exposures,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-will-offer-abortion-counseling-and-in-certain-cases-abortions-to-pregnant-veterans-and-va-beneficiaries\/\">increased access to reproductive health services<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-expands-maternity-care-coordination-for-veterans\/\">expanded maternity care coordination<\/a>\u00a0for Veterans from pregnancy through 12 months post-partum. All of this work contributes to VA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-announces-2024-equity-action-plan-new-actions-to-ensure-that-all-veterans-receive-the-health-care-and-benefits-they-earned\/\">equity action plan<\/a> and broader efforts to ensure that every Veteran gets the care and benefits they deserve.<\/p>\n<p>VA is also delivering disability compensation benefits to an all-time <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-record-benefits-delivered-women-veterans\/\">record number<\/a> of women Veterans, with 717,141 women Veterans receiving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/disability\/file-disability-claim-form-21-526ez\/introduction\" rel=\"noopener\">disability compensation benefits<\/a>\u00a0today. Over the past five years, an additional 197,667 women Veterans have begun receiving benefits, representing a 28% increase. More than 89% of women Veterans who have applied have received disability benefits from VA for at least one condition, on average receiving $27,109 in earned disability compensation benefits per year.<\/p>\n<p>VA\u2019s dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.va.gov\/wvcc.asp\" rel=\"noopener\">Women Veterans Call Center<\/a> is here to support women Veterans in navigating all the services they may need, including health care and benefits.
