Check the official source for current information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs today announced it has established commissions to find candidates to lead the Veterans Health and Veterans Benefits Administrations. VA Deputy Secretary Paul R. Lawrence, Ph.D., will chair both commissions.<\/p>\n<p>The commissions will help VA find candidates for its Under Secretary for Health and Under Secretary for Benefits positions and are a prerequisite to the president\u2019s nomination of a candidate, subject to Senate confirmation, for each role.<\/p>\n<p>The search comes at a crucial time for the department, as it\u2019s implementing a number of reforms to improve VA services for Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors. Successful accomplishments and milestones reached during the second Trump Administration so far include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-to-phase-out-treatment-for-gender-dysphoria\/\">Phasing out treatment for gender dysphoria<\/a> and directing all savings to helping paralyzed Veterans and amputees.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-processes-one-million-disability-claims-faster-than-ever-before\/\">Processing record numbers of disability claims<\/a> and reaching one million disability claims processed for FY25 on Feb. 20, faster than at any point in history.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-names-nine-additional-facilities-that-will-deploy-federal-ehr-in-2026\/\">Accelerating the deployment<\/a> of its integrated electronic health record system, after the program was nearly dormant for almost two years under the Biden Administration.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-ends-dei-stops-millions-in-spending-on-dei\/\">Ending DEI at the department<\/a>, reversing the divisive Biden-era policies and stopping more than $14 million in DEI spending.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-announces-return-to-in-person-work-policy\/\">Ending the Biden Administration\u2019s telework and remote work policies<\/a>, ordering thousands of VA employees back to the office.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-to-terminate-585-non-mission-critical-or-duplicative-contracts\/\">Redirecting hundreds of millions<\/a> from non-mission-critical efforts to health care, benefits and services that directly support VA beneficiaries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>About the Under Secretary for Health Position\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The USH is responsible for the country\u2019s largest health care system and works to provide Veterans with the health care choices they have earned while maintaining and improving the department\u2019s direct health care capabilities. The USH manages the operation of VA\u2019s more than 1,300 health care facilities, including hospitals, community-based outpatient clinics, nursing homes, domiciliaries and Vet Centers.
