Check the official source for current information.<\/p>\n<p>For Army Veteran Frank Pagliocca, the road to healing and rehabilitation began with a breakdown and a breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>Years of undiagnosed trauma from a 14-month deployment to Korea, where Pagliocca served in air defense artillery on a remote mountaintop, had taken its toll.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI collapsed at the age of 64,\u201d he shared. \u201cMy body just said, \u2018You\u2019re not doing this anymore. You\u2019re going to get help or you\u2019re going to die.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The emotional weight of his service experience, compounded by domestic struggles later in life, eventually brought Pagliocca to his breaking point. That\u2019s when he turned to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/orlando-health-care\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Orlando VA Healthcare System<\/a>\u00a0for help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to VA, and they brought me back to life,\u201d he said. \u201cWhether you\u2019re a Veteran or not, recognizing when you need support and reaching out can save your life. It saved mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Recovery is a journey\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>What began as a visit for support with domestic issues soon revealed deeper, underlying trauma. With help from a team of mental health professionals, Pagliocca entered detox, began therapy and eventually found healing and stability through the Orlando VA <a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/?s=Domiciliary+Residential+Rehabilitation+Treatment+Program\">Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Patricia Green, a psychologist at the Domiciliary, played a key role in guiding Pagliocca through recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssisting Veterans like Mr. Pagliocca signifies that recovery is a journey,\u201d said Dr. Green. \u201cIt\u2019s about building trust, understanding their unique experiences and reminding them that hope is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly grateful to them,\u201d Pagliocca said of his VA care team. \u201cVA covered my expenses while I was there, including food, shelter, clothing and counseling every day of the week. My only responsibility was to show up and do the work. They gave me a safe place to fix myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrank\u2019s journey showed me the power of simply being there and walking alongside a Veteran,\u201d said Greg Donohue, a VA staff member. \u201cWhen he first came in, I asked how I could help and personally walked him to the Veterans Service Office to start his claim. Checking on his progress became a part of my routine, because Frank\u2019s recovery mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom then on, he always checked on my progress,\u201d Pagliocca said. \u201cThat man cares. He\u2019s part of why I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018I rediscovered myself\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>With VA support, Pagliocca was able to secure full disability compensation, become a homeowner and begin a brand-new chapter in his life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only things I had were a bag in one hand and a cage with two kittens in the other,\u201d he added. \u201cYet I found peace.
