Paying it forward: One Veteran\u00e2\u0080\u0099s healing journey through treatment court<\/h2>\n

Once people find themselves in a courtroom with a judge, they typically never want to return. That was not the case for Army Veteran Jimmy Wigington, where the courtroom became a place of hope, not judgment. It became a place where he received a second chance and was inspired to help others find theirs.<\/p>\n

Veterans treatment court: Pathways to healing<\/h2>\n

Wigington graduated from the Washington County Veterans Treatment Court<\/a> (VTC) in December 2025. VTC offers specialized court programs that provide justice-involved Veterans with opportunities for rehabilitation, treatment and recovery instead of traditional sentencing. <\/p>\n

This collaborative approach is made possible through the strong partnership between the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks<\/a> (VHSO), the judiciary, and county probation offices. Through their collaboration, they consistently monitor each Veteran\u00e2\u0080\u0099s progress to support adherence to individualized treatment plans.<\/p>\n

Grateful for the life-changing help he received, Wigington wanted to give back. In March 2026, he became a VTC Mentor, helping guide fellow Veterans toward the same hope and healing. <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u0080\u009cI\u00e2\u0080\u0099ve walked a mile in their shoes. I can have real conversations with real experience with Veterans,\u00e2\u0080\u009d he shared. \u00e2\u0080\u009cSomeone was there for me, and it\u00e2\u0080\u0099s my turn to be there for someone else.\u00e2\u0080\u009d<\/p>\n

Thanks to VHSO and programs like VTC, Veterans like Higington aren\u00e2\u0080\u0099t just overcoming their own struggles\u00e2\u0080\u0094they\u00e2\u0080\u0099re helping others do the same. As Jeff Glover, a\u00c2\u00a0VHSO\u00c2\u00a0Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist,\u00c2\u00a0said, \u00e2\u0080\u009cThis program has proven to be successful for so many. Seeing graduates from the program give back by helping others really makes it come full circle.\u00e2\u0080\u009d<\/p>\n

VHSO is here for Veterans, with the true reward not only in seeing them succeed, but also in witnessing them give back to fellow Veterans. Through dedication, support and a commitment to service, Wigington and VHSO are making a real difference in the lives of those who have served.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
